Pyxis is currently seeking a Commissioning Engineer based in the Oakland office. This position offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across various industries, including healthcare, biosciences, higher education, and more. At Pyxis, you'll have the opportunity to work with experienced engineers to ensure that systems operate efficiently and meet project specifications.
This opportunity is open to a candidate holding a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or similar degree from an ABET-accredited program, with substantial prior experience in commissioning, MEP design, construction, controls, facilities engineering, or a related field. The Commissioning Engineer III will work directly with other engineering professionals to perform commissioning activities and tasks with general direction from senior commissioning staff.
What You Will Do:
Lead or support development and refinement of commissioning plans, test scripts, and checklists.
Conduct site visits to observe, document, and verify implementation and operational testing of MEP systems.
Verify system functionality through hands-on testing, performance analysis, and documentation of findings.
Participate in team meetings, client discussions, and cross-functional collaborations to troubleshoot and resolve project issues.
Prepare and maintain documentation of commissioning activities, reports, and lessons learned.
Leverage and experiment with AI-powered tools to streamline technical documentation and data synthesis.

Term of Employment:
This is a full-time position. This position requires a minimum of 40 hours of work per week.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution. Candidates with commensurate work experience will also be considered.
Five or more years of relevant experience in commissioning, MEP design, construction, controls, facilities engineering, or a related field.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and control sequences.
Ability to manage assigned commissioning tasks, coordinate with project teams, and document findings with limited supervision.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Position may require security clearance for specific federal or institutional sites.
Ability to work remotely: Candidates must have access to reliable broadband internet. An employer subsidy is available.
Valid US Driver’s License.
Candidates must have reliable transportation to and from project sites throughout Northern California. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for approved travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on construction sites or in large-scale commercial/institutional construction projects.
Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC controls.
Strong knowledge of the commissioning process and relevant fieldwork experience.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or pursuit of certification.
Commissioning certifications from recognized organizations such as ASHRAE, ACG, BCxA, NEBB, AEE.
LEED AP or LEED Green Associate certification.
Exposure to or interest in leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) or data analytics to automate technical reporting and optimize energy systems.
