About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to design and support industrial facility projects from concept through construction.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams. You will work closely with engineering, construction, customers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality structural engineering solutions while meeting defined project schedules.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC)-accredited program.
  • 4–12 years of experience in the design and specification of structural systems and components.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Tennessee — Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge, if required.
  • Experience with the design and construction of industrial facilities and major capital projects.
  • Experience participating in multidisciplinary design efforts involving mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Experience preparing structural packages, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis and design software, including RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, RAM Structural System, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to develop and interpret computational models for steel, concrete, and foundation systems and validate results through hand calculations and engineering judgment.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable structural codes and standards, including AISC, ASCE, ACI, and related requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed structural engineering design packages from concept through construction.

  • Perform structural design and analysis for:

    • Structural steel buildings and structures
    • Reinforced concrete buildings and structures
    • Pipe supports
    • Structural connections
    • Foundation systems
  • Prepare engineering calculations, construction specifications, drawings, datasheets, and design specifications.

  • Develop cost estimates, bills of material, labor-hour estimates, statements of work, and design criteria.

  • Provide engineering procurement support and field technical support during construction.

  • Perform field walkdowns of existing plant facilities to develop accurate design documentation.

  • Provide field troubleshooting and technical support for existing systems and corrective actions.

  • Review and approve shop drawings and help ensure construction complies with approved plans, specifications, and sound construction practices.

  • Manage project requirements and ensure requirements are properly incorporated into design documents and procurement specifications.

  • Participate in requirements verification and verification matrix activities prior to equipment startup.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary model reviews and formal design reviews.

  • Evaluate and disposition engineering non-conformances.

  • Respond to requests for waivers and deviations.

  • Manage engineering change packages.

  • Provide technical direction to designers and drafters.

  • Perform peer reviews and formal design verification of engineering deliverables.

  • Provide technical troubleshooting and engineering expertise to support project teams.

  • Collaborate effectively with customers, stakeholders, construction personnel, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Maintain a professional code of conduct and demonstrate strong ethical behavior.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is a plus:

  • Knowledge of federal codes and specifications.
  • Experience with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and SpecsIntact.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, or similar CAD/BIM platforms.
  • Experience performing interdisciplinary coordination and resolving technical issues during design development.
  • Experience working under ASME NQA-1 quality requirements.
  • Experience with nuclear, DOE, government, energy, power, or other highly regulated industrial facilities.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a technically strong Structural Engineer who can take ownership of structural design deliverables, work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment, communicate clearly with project stakeholders, and provide practical engineering support from design through construction.

The successful candidate will have strong structural analysis and design capabilities, industrial facility experience, a Tennessee P.E. license, and the ability to work effectively in an on-site project environment.

Compensation

$125,000–$155,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
