Job description

Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

About Molekula

Molekula.ai is building the foundation for the next era of personalized medicine. We are

transforming the $360 Billion small molecule therapeutic market by creating the world's

first end-to-end platform for autonomous, on-demand chemical synthesis. Our vision is to

move from mass-produced drugs to personalized therapeutics, culminating in the

"Synthesizer-in-a-Box" for point-of-care manufacturing.

The Role

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be the visionary and technical leader responsible

for executing Molekula.ai's ambitious, multi-phased product roadmap. This role requires a

rare blend of expertise across Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Organic Chemistry, with a

proven ability to translate complex scientific challenges into scalable, commercial

products. The CTO will be responsible for building and leading the entire engineering and

scientific team, ensuring the seamless integration of our software (AI planning) and

hardware (Humanoid/Synthesizer) components.

Key Responsibilities

. Technical Strategy & Vision

• Define and execute the long-term technical roadmap, from the initial AI synthesis

planning platform to the final "Synthesizer-in-a-Box" hardware.

• Lead the architecture and development of the core AI engine, including advanced

textual and visual search, retrosynthesis planning, and reinforcement learning (RL)

models.

• Establish the technical standards for data collection, security, and IP protection,

ensuring compliance with future pharmaceutical and regulatory requirements.

Hardware & Robotics Development

• Oversee the development and deployment of the Humanoid Chemist project, focusing on its role as a data collection platform (sensors, computer vision) and a proof-of-concept for autonomous synthesis.

• Drive the transition from the teleoperated humanoid to the fully autonomous,

miniaturized "Synthesizer-in-a-Box" hardware platform.

• Manage the integration of chemical engineering principles with robotics and software

control systems.

Team Leadership & Culture

• Recruit, mentor, and lead a world-class, cross-functional team of AI/ML Engineers, Robotics Engineers, Software Developers, and Computational Chemists.

• Foster a culture of scientific rigor, rapid iteration, and high-quality engineering.

• Serve as the primary technical spokesperson for the company to investors, partners,

and the scientific community.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Computational Chemistry, or a related

quantitative field is strongly preferred.

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in technology leadership, with at least 3 years as a VP of Engineering or CTO at a high-growth, venture-backed startup.

• Deep Expertise in at least Two of the Following:

• AI/ML: Expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs), Reinforcement Learning (RL),

Computer Vision, and Generative AI applied to scientific problems.

• Robotics/Automation: Experience with complex electromechanical systems,

control systems, sensor integration (e.g., "smell sensors"), and autonomous mobile

robotics.

• Chemistry: Strong foundational knowledge of Organic Chemistry, Retrosynthesis,

and chemical process engineering.

• Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in taking a complex, multi-disciplinary

product from concept (Phase 0) through commercial launch (Phase 3).

• Strategic Acumen: Ability to align technical decisions with the company's business

model (PLG, profit-sharing, hardware sales).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with regulatory pathways (e.g., FDA, EMA) for medical devices or

pharmaceutical manufacturing.

• Prior experience in the chemical informatics or drug discovery automation space (e.g.,

retrosynthesis software).

• Familiarity with the challenges of high-precision fluid handling and microfluidics.

Compensation

Competitive salary, significant equity package, and performance-based bonuses

commensurate with experience and the company's stage. This is an opportunity to lead a team at the forefront of a multi-billion dollar industry disruption
