Job description

The Multiple Subject Alternative High School Teacher is employed by John Muir Charter Schools (JMCS) and is responsible for classroom instruction of young adults participating in the California Conservation Corps (CCC) in Placer CA. Placer CCC and JMCS’s innovative education programs are designed to provide youth, ages 18-25, with an engaging educational experience that meets individual needs. We combine classroom-based instruction, project work, credit recovery, life skills, technical job training and other academic experiences into a highly personalized high school diploma program. Classroom activities are combined with top notch vocational training provided by Placer CCC. The academic classroom is a self-contained class with approximately 15 students; the instructor facilitates all academic content, including collaboration with Special Ed department to appropriately address the needs of students with an IEP. JMCS provides curriculum and support, and the instructor is held responsible for creating a dynamic, engaging, rigorous, and supportive experience for our students. This position will be supported by Placer CCC staff who provide vocational training, work experience and case management. JMCS staff on site work collaboratively with the Placer CCC staff to support the success of the students. Teachers are expected to actively engage in all school-wide professional development, which includes several all-school Zoom Meetings throughout the year, a 3-day in-person all-school conference in January, non-student teacher planning days, monthly JMCS Director meetings, and New Teacher Training (for all those new to our school) via Zoom during the first week of August. The position is a full-time salaried position. The school operates on an 11-month, Semester calendar running August through June, with holidays and breaks. This position is expected to be an active and cooperative member of the JMCS and Placer CCC communities.
