Job Summary
Southern California Precision Machining is hiring experienced CNC Setup Operators to join our growing manufacturing team.
This is not an entry-level position. Qualified candidates should have hands-on experience independently setting up CNC machines, making tooling and work-offset adjustments, inspecting completed parts, and troubleshooting common machining and quality issues.
Depending on experience, candidates may work with CNC mills, CNC lathes, multi-axis machines, mill-turn equipment, or other advanced machining systems. We are looking for dependable machinists who can complete accurate setups, maintain production efficiency, and consistently produce parts that meet blueprint and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
Independently set up and operate CNC machining equipment.
Review blueprints, job travelers, setup sheets, tooling lists, and work instructions.
Install and indicate fixtures, vises, chucks, collets, jaws, and workholding components.
Load cutting tools and verify correct tool locations and offsets.
Set work coordinates, tool offsets, and other machine parameters.
Perform first-piece inspections and verify that parts meet blueprint requirements.
Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, indicators, thread gauges, pin gauges, and other inspection equipment.
Make tool-wear, geometry, and work-offset adjustments as necessary.
Monitor production and inspect parts at required intervals.
Identify and correct dimensional variation before nonconforming parts are produced.
Troubleshoot tooling, workholding, finish, chip-control, coolant, and machine-alarm issues.
Replace worn or damaged cutting tools and verify the process after replacement.
Perform minor program edits at the machine when authorized.
Optimize setups and machining processes while maintaining quality and safety requirements.
Communicate setup, tooling, programming, and quality concerns to the appropriate department.
Accurately complete inspection records, production documentation, and job travelers.
Maintain machines, tooling, fixtures, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
Follow all company safety, quality, and production procedures.
Assist operators and less-experienced machinists when needed.
Perform additional machining and production duties as assigned.
Skills
Demonstrated ability to independently complete CNC machine setups.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols.
Ability to use precision measuring and inspection equipment.
Understanding of cutting tools, inserts, speeds, feeds, workholding, and machining fundamentals.
Experience setting tool offsets and work coordinates.
Ability to make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
Ability to troubleshoot common machining and production problems.
Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, or GD&T.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team.
