Business Development & Consulting Associate
Classification: Independent Contractor (1099)
Company: Legacy Leadership Group
Position Overview
The Business Development & Consulting Associate is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities for Legacy Leadership Group while progressively supporting client engagements and consulting delivery.
The role begins with a strong emphasis on business development and relationship building. As the Associate develops knowledge of Legacy's methodologies, services, systems, and client-delivery processes, they will have opportunities to take on increasing responsibility within client engagements.
This is an entrepreneurial, performance-based role designed for someone who wants to build business, learn consulting, and grow their responsibilities based on demonstrated capability and results.
Primary Responsibilities
Business Development
Identify and develop prospective clients and business opportunities.
Prospect through networking, referrals, outbound outreach, existing relationships, and other appropriate channels.
Initiate conversations with business owners, executives, and decision-makers.
Identify potential operational, sales, leadership, marketing, technology, or business challenges where Legacy may be able to help.
Conduct initial qualification and gather relevant information before bringing opportunities into deeper discovery.
Coordinate discovery meetings with Legacy leadership.
Maintain accurate prospect, contact, and opportunity information within Legacy's CRM.
Follow up with prospects and help advance opportunities through the sales process.
Represent Legacy professionally and accurately in all prospect and client interactions.
Consulting & Client Delivery
As experience and capability develop, responsibilities may include:
Supporting client discovery and research.
Assisting with business and operational analysis.
Developing website and marketing copy.
Creating social-media and marketing content.
Conducting research and preparing reports.
Supporting AI-assisted workflows, prompting, and content development.
Assisting with CRM, sales, marketing, operational, and process-improvement projects.
Creating client documents, presentations, reports, and other deliverables.
Supporting implementation and ongoing client engagements.
Taking ownership of defined portions of engagements as skills and experience develop.
How Legacy Works
Legacy follows a discovery-before-prescription approach.
The Associate is expected to identify problems and opportunities without prematurely promising a particular solution. Legacy first seeks to understand the client's business, existing processes, systems, constraints, objectives, and underlying challenges before recommending a course of action.
The Associate may create and advance opportunities but does not independently commit Legacy to pricing, scope, deliverables, timelines, custom development, contractual terms, or guaranteed outcomes unless specifically authorized.
Development & Growth
This role is intended to expand with demonstrated capability.
Initially, Legacy leadership will retain primary responsibility for consulting strategy, solution design, project management, and client delivery. The Associate will be trained through real opportunities and engagements and may progressively assume greater responsibility.
There is no predetermined ceiling on responsibility based solely on the initial role description. Increased capability, performance, client trust, and business production may lead to larger delivery responsibilities and broader opportunities within Legacy.
Compensation
This is a performance-based independent contractor position.
Under the current compensation structure:
15% of Eligible Collected Revenue for qualifying business originated by the Associate when the Associate does not perform delivery work.
23% of Eligible Collected Revenue when the Associate originates the business and performs approved material delivery work on the engagement.
Compensation is based on revenue actually collected by Legacy after applicable approved direct/client-specific costs.
No commission is earned on amounts a client does not pay.
Specific or unusual engagements may have separately agreed written compensation terms.
The Independent Contractor Agreement controls the complete compensation terms.
What We're Looking For
Someone who is:
Comfortable starting conversations and developing relationships.
Motivated by performance-based earning potential.
Curious about how businesses operate.
Able to recognize problems without assuming they already know the answer.
Organized and willing to maintain accurate CRM and client records.
Comfortable learning new technology, AI tools, systems, and business processes.
Coachable and willing to learn through actual client work.
Self-directed and comfortable operating as an independent contractor.
Interested in developing beyond sales into consulting and client delivery.
The Opportunity
This isn't intended to be a traditional scripted sales position.
The goal is to give the right person an opportunity to create business, participate in the business they create, develop consulting skills, and expand their role as Legacy grows.
