In practice, Luna is designed not just to deliver correct answers, but to help learners rebuild underlying mental models over time—consistent with conceptual change accounts that emphasize “reconstruction” within a learner’s broader conceptual ecology rather than simple replacement. To support this, Luna’s instruction is paired with “explorable explainables”: guided, interactive explanations where students can manipulate representations, test predictions, and observe consequences—treating text and visuals as an environment to think in, not just information to consume. This structure helps students surface their current intuitions, encounter productive dissonance, and then stabilize improved conceptions through repeated, spaced opportunities to apply ideas across contexts—aiming for durable conceptual prevalence of scientifically accurate thinking (not just short-term performance). Luna is aligned to New York State Education Department standards, supports adaptive pathways, and includes family-friendly visibility and safety features so learning progress is legible, motivating, and responsibly monitored.
