Founding Product Engineer Intern

OwnCare is building tools that bring transparency to healthcare billing and costs so patients can better understand and navigate the financial side of healthcare. We essentially want to build the next Rocket Money for Health Insurance. 

We’re an early-stage company working toward our first products, and we’re looking for someone excited to help build from the ground up.

As a Founding Product Engineer Intern, you’ll work closely with the team to design, build, and iterate on the first versions of our platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning ideas into working products and learning directly from users.

Role Description

Because we are early, much of the work will involve building quickly, testing ideas, and improving based on user feedback.

• Help design and build early versions of the OwnCare platform

• Work closely with the team to translate user insights into product features

• Prototype and test new product ideas quickly

• Participate in product discussions and help shape technical decisions

• Improve the reliability, usability, and performance of early product features

• Help evaluate tools, technologies, and architectures as the platform evolves

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or any Technical field.

• Experience building creative projects that function

• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects

• Interest in building products in early-stage environments

• Experience with web development (frontend and backend)

• Familiarity with APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure

• Interest in healthcare technology, FHIR standards, and cost transparency

Internship Structure

This role begins as an unpaid internship, allowing us to work closely together while building the company and learning how we collaborate as a team. Strong contributors may have the opportunity to grow into founding or early team roles as OwnCare develops.
