Machinist I

Position Overview

The Machinist I supports Miltech's production team by safely operating assigned CNC machines, following travelers and drawings, completing required in-process checks, and recording work accurately. This is a developing-level position that works under the direction of the Production Manager and receives technical support from senior and master machinists. The machinist is expected to stop and ask for assistance whenever a setup, program, inspection result, material, or machine condition is unclear.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the machinist include:

• Review the traveler, current drawing, work instructions, material identification, program, tools, and any job sample or visual aid before beginning work.

• Safely load, operate, monitor, and unload assigned CNC machines using approved programs, settings, and work methods.

• Assist with tooling, workholding, material setup, and first-piece activities under the direction of an authorized senior machinist, master machinist, or supervisor.

• Use approved measuring tools to perform and record required in-process inspections, and immediately report any result that is out of tolerance or uncertain.

• Make only the tool, wear, or offset adjustments covered by current training and authorization; request assistance before making any unfamiliar change.

• Record labor time, completed quantities, scrap, inspection results, and job notes accurately in ProShop and on the traveler as required.

• Maintain part identification and traceability, prevent damage and FOD, and keep conforming, suspect, and nonconforming parts properly separated.

• Perform assigned deburring and cleaning when required by the traveler or supervisor, then route completed parts to the correct next operation.

• Inspect tools for obvious wear or damage, return tooling and measuring equipment to their assigned locations, and report missing or damaged items.

• Perform authorized basic machine care and maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in accordance with company safety and housekeeping requirements.

• Stop work and notify the Production Manager, senior technical staff, or Quality when there is an unsafe condition, missing information, machine problem, damaged material, or possible nonconformance.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

• Must have a G.E.D., high school diploma, or equivalent demonstrated education and experience.

• Basic mechanical aptitude, shop math skills, and the ability to read and follow drawings,

travelers,

and written work instructions.

• Ability to learn safe CNC machine operation and the use of calipers,

micrometers,

and other approved measuring tools through on-the-job training.

• Dependable attendance,

attention to detail,

and willingness to stop and ask questions rather than guess when instructions or results are unclear.

• Basic computer and data-entry skills for entering time,

quantities,

scrap,

and job information into JobBoss or other company systems.

• Prior machining,

manufacturing,

technical-school,

blueprint-reading,

or mechanical experience is helpful but not required.
