Sous Chef – Banquet & Catering Facility
Position Summary
The Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef in overseeing all kitchen operations for banquet events, weddings, corporate functions, and catered events. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality food preparation, maintaining food safety standards, supervising kitchen staff, and delivering exceptional culinary experiences for guests. The Sous Chef plays a key leadership role in executing large-scale events while maintaining consistency, efficiency, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations and event execution.
- Supervise, train, and mentor line cooks, prep cooks, and banquet kitchen staff.
- Prepare and oversee the production of menu items for weddings, corporate events, social gatherings, and special functions.
- Ensure food is prepared, plated, and presented according to established standards and timelines.
- Coordinate production schedules to meet event requirements and service deadlines.
- Monitor food quality, taste, portion control, and presentation.
- Maintain proper food handling, sanitation, and HACCP procedures.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, receiving, and storage of food products.
- Minimize food waste and control food costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Work closely with event managers and front-of-house teams to ensure seamless event execution.
- Assist with menu development, recipe standardization, and seasonal offerings.
- Ensure compliance with all local health department regulations and company policies.
- Act as Executive Chef in their absence.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of culinary leadership experience, preferably in banquet, catering, hotel, or high-volume event operations.
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, banquet production, and large-scale catering.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
