Job description

Try cases. Learn from someone who's done it for 25 years.

Most new attorneys spend their first two years reviewing documents in a windowless room. That is not this job.

At Greater Zion Law, you will be in court in your first month. You will meet your own clients, take your own hearings, and build your own caseload — with an attorney beside you who has been practicing in Utah's Fifth District since 1999 and who actually wants to teach you how to do this well.

We are a Southern Utah firm serving Washington, Iron, Beaver, and Kane Counties. Our clients are neighbors: parents fighting for time with their kids, families facing a criminal charge that could change their lives, business owners who need real answers. The work matters, and it happens close to home.

What you'll do

  • Represent clients in divorce, custody, parent-time, paternity, and post-decree modification matters in the Fifth and Sixth Judicial Districts
  • Handle criminal defense matters from arraignment through resolution, including justice court, district court, and public defender contract work
  • Draft pleadings, motions, stipulations, and decrees — and get real feedback on them
  • Appear at hearings, mediations, pretrial conferences, and trials
  • Manage your own client relationships from consultation through closing
  • Grow into additional practice areas as your interests develop — estate planning and probate, bankruptcy, and business and transactional work are all part of what we do

Who we're looking for

  • Licensed to practice in Utah, or admitted and awaiting swearing-in (recent bar passers are strongly encouraged to apply)
  • A clear, persuasive writer — we will ask for a writing sample and we will read it closely
  • Comfortable in front of people: clients, judges, opposing counsel, and a courtroom
  • Organized enough to run a real caseload, and honest enough to say when something slipped
  • Genuinely interested in family law and criminal defense — this is people work, often on the worst day of someone's life
  • Willing to live in and be part of the Southern Utah community

We are not looking for a particular class rank or law school. We are looking for judgment, work ethic, and the kind of person a client trusts within five minutes of meeting.

What we offer

  • Structured training from day one. A written training plan covering our systems, court-by-court procedure, e-filing, and how we actually practice family law and criminal defense here. You will not be handed a file and wished luck.
  • Mentorship that isn't a buzzword. Direct, ongoing supervision from a firm owner with an AV Preeminent rating, a past presidency of the Southern Utah Bar Association, and the Utah State Bar Distinguished Service Award.
  • Compensation built on performance. Competitive base salary plus a productivity-based bonus structure — you share directly in the value you create. Expect to earn between $72000 and $150000 a year.
  • Real advancement. We are a growing firm. There is room here for someone who wants to build a practice, not just fill a seat.
  • St. George. Two hours from Las Vegas, forty minutes from Zion, three hundred days of sun, and a legal community small enough that your reputation is your own.

How to apply

Send a resume, a law school transcript, and a writing sample of no more than ten pages to [email protected] with the subject line "Associate Attorney Application — [Your Name]."

In your cover letter, skip the formalities and answer one question: why family law or criminal defense, and why here?

Applications are reviewed as they arrive and interviews are scheduled on a rolling basis.
