Market Operations Manager: Position Overview
We operate multiple high volume farmers market stands each weekend selling wild-caught Alaskan seafood, along with a growing direct to consumer, and wholesale business.
We are seeking a highly organized, accountable, and hands-on Market Operations Manager to run weekend market operations, manage staff, and drive both retail and wholesale growth. This is a performance-driven role with upside tied to results.
Core Responsibilities
- Weekend Market Operations
Oversee market prep, execution, and breakdown of multiple market stands
Ensure each stand is properly stocked, staffed, and merchandised
Troubleshoot issues in real time (staffing gaps, inventory shortages, equipment problems)
Move between locations and operate markets/supervise as needed to maintain performance
- Staff Leadership & Hiring
Hire and onboard qualified market staff
Train team on sales approach, product knowledge, and efficiency
Manage scheduling and handle callouts
Ensure accountability and strong performance across all staff
Shadow each staff member 1x per quarter at entire market to provide support and maintain quality/accuracy of service
- Inventory & Product Management
Allocate inventory across market stands based on expected demand
Track product movement and report end-of-day inventory
Minimize loss (thawing, overstocking, poor allocation)
Coordinate inventory needs with in a timely manner with ownership
Maintain freezers/refrigerators to maintain product quality
- Market Management: Oversight
Monitor sales by person, stand and product
Drive revenue through upselling and product bundling
Identify underperforming locations and implement improvements
Communicate with farmers market managers and coordinators
Maintain strong relationships and ensure smooth operations at each location
Report sales to market managers each month
- Wholesale Operations & Billing
Manage wholesale deliveries and logistics
Ensure accurate invoicing and billing
Support growth of wholesale accounts
- Reporting & Communication
Provide end-of-day and weekend summaries including:
Sales by location
Inventory remaining
Issues and opportunities
Communicate proactively with ownership
Compensation:
Base Salary
$50,000 – $58,000 annually (based on experience)
On-Target Earning
$65,000 – $80,000+ annually
Bonuses paid quarterly based on operational performance
Qualifications
Experience managing large teams in fast paced environments (retail, food service, logistics, or markets)
Strong organizational and problem solving skills
Comfortable making independent decisions under pressure
Physically capable of lifting and working outdoors
Reliable transportation (multiple locations required)
