Founding Engineer — BuildTrace (AI for Construction)

About BuildTrace

BuildTrace is an AI platform redefining how construction projects manage change. Think of it as “Git for construction” — a change management system that brings version control, AI reasoning, and transparency to complex, multi-stakeholder construction projects. Our first deployment is with large-scale general contractors, including landmark builds like a Mormon temple project.

We’re at the early stage with real traction and paying enterprise clients. Now we’re looking for a Founding Engineer to help us turn our fast-evolving prototype into a scalable, production-grade product.

What You’ll Do

• Own core technical decisions and architecture for BuildTrace’s AI + construction platform.
• Design, build, and deploy scalable full-stack applications (GCP-based).
• Work closely with the founder to translate customer pain points into features that deliver clarity and automation for complex projects.
• Develop and optimize AI-driven document and image processing pipelines (e.g., plan change detection, version tracking).
• Implement data models and APIs that enable robust versioning, collaboration, and auditability across teams.
• Establish technical culture, engineering standards, and potentially build the early team.

What We’re Looking For

• Full-stack fluency: Expertise in frontend (React, Next.js, TypeScript) and backend (Python, Node.js, or Go).
• Cloud architecture: Deep experience with GCP, Kubernetes, or similar distributed systems.
• AI/ML knowledge: Strong understanding of computer vision, LLMs, or document intelligence (experience building AI-driven products is a big plus).
• Startup mindset: Comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and ownership.
• System builder: You enjoy designing from first principles and care about reliability, scalability, and performance.

Bonus Points

• Background in construction tech, AEC workflows, or digital twin systems.
• Experience integrating AI pipelines into production environments.
• Prior startup or founding engineer experience.
