Location: Ohio (ODRC Correctional Facility)

Job Type: Contract | Full-Time (40 Hours/Week)

Shift: Evening/Night Shift

Schedule: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM (10–12-hour shifts; must be flexible based on facility needs)

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) facility. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to inmates within a secure correctional environment while ensuring high-quality patient care, medication administration, emergency response, and clinical documentation.

This is a full-time contract position requiring flexibility with shifts and schedules based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to inmates housed in a state-operated correctional facility.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document symptoms, progress, and treatment responses.

• Administer prescribed medications, immunizations, IV therapy, and physician-ordered treatments.

• Monitor and record vital signs and conduct routine nursing rounds.

• Develop, implement, and update individualized patient care plans.

• Respond promptly to medical emergencies, administer first aid and CPR, and coordinate emergency hospital transfers when required.

• Monitor restrained or isolated inmates according to established protocols.

• Perform specialized nursing procedures including:

  • IV Therapy

  • Wound Care

  • Oxygen Therapy

  • Dialysis

  • Blood Transfusions

  • Catheterization

  • Suctioning

  • Tube Feeding

  • Phlebotomy

  • Chemotherapy (when applicable)

• Maintain accurate medical records, medication administration records (MAR), and incident reports.

• Maintain inventory of medications, controlled substances, and medical supplies.

• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care.

• Participate in staff education, orientation, and ongoing training.

• Assist with scheduling, supervising, and mentoring nursing staff when assigned.

• Participate in Code Blue and other emergency response activities.

Required Qualifications

• Active Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) License

• Minimum 1 year of Registered Nurse experience

• Current BLS/CPR Certification

• Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills

• Experience with medication administration and electronic medical documentation

• Ability to work independently in a correctional healthcare environment
