Superintendent – Public Works (Water Treatment)

We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations for major water treatment facility construction and upgrade projects. This specialized leadership role requires deep technical expertise in large-capacity water and wastewater treatment plants, including the integration of mechanical, electrical, and structural systems. The Superintendent will oversee all aspects of site execution while maintaining demanding safety, quality, schedule, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct daily field operations for water treatment facility construction and upgrade projects.

• Ensure all work complies with project specifications, agency standards, applicable regulations, and approved construction documents.

• Oversee installation and integration of treatment processes, including filtration, disinfection, chemical feed, mechanical piping, electrical, structural, and related systems.

• Optimize construction means, methods, staffing, equipment, and sequencing for high-capacity treatment facilities of 25 MGD or greater.

• Manage project schedules, resource allocation, and daily production; coordinate closely with project managers to track progress against the baseline schedule.

• Lead field crews, foremen, and specialized subcontractors to achieve safe, high-quality, and efficient project delivery.

• Champion a zero-incident safety culture and ensure work meets required quality-control, inspection, testing, and documentation standards.

• Serve as the primary field contact for owner representatives, inspectors, utility districts, and other regulatory agencies.

• Identify and resolve field coordination issues, construction constraints, and schedule risks in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of heavy civil construction experience.

• At least 5 years of dedicated experience constructing water and/or wastewater treatment plants.

• At least 5 years of experience on treatment facilities with capacities of 25 MGD or greater.

• At least 5 years of experience serving as a General Superintendent on major facility construction projects.

• Proven supervisory experience working directly for a general contractor.

• Ability to work from the San Jose area and manage local project sites effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience delivering projects for Santa Clara Valley Water District or comparable California utility districts.

• Specialized certifications or technical training in mechanical piping, concrete structures, high-voltage electrical systems, or other treatment-plant-related disciplines.
