Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Medical Provider About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Medical Provider to perform comprehensive disability evaluations for Veterans and transitioning Service Members seeking VA disability benefits.

This is an assessment-focused clinical position. The provider will evaluate TBI history, symptoms, residual impairments, and functional limitations; review relevant medical records; perform focused clinical and neurological assessments; and complete required documentation in accordance with applicable VA guidelines and clinical protocols.

This position does not involve ongoing patient treatment, prescribing medications, or long-term patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive face-to-face TBI evaluations.

  • Review medical history, injury history, current symptoms, and supporting medical records.

  • Assess cognitive, emotional, behavioral, neurological, physical, and functional residuals associated with TBI.

  • Perform focused neurological and clinical examinations.

  • Complete and submit VA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and supporting documentation accurately and within required timeframes.

  • Maintain objective, evidence-based clinical findings and documentation.

  • Review and interpret medical records and supporting evidence.

  • Identify and appropriately communicate urgent clinical findings according to established protocols.

  • Provide professional, compassionate, and exceptional in-person Veteran assessments.

  • Work independently while following established clinical protocols and requirements.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Participate in required meetings, training, and process-improvement activities.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree.

  • Specialty in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), Physiatry, or Psychiatry, as approved for TBI examinations.

  • Active, unrestricted medical license in the applicable state of practice.

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible, as applicable.

  • Current BLS certification.

  • 8+ years of relevant clinical experience.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Fluent professional English.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience evaluating patients with traumatic brain injury.

  • Experience completing VA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs).

  • Experience performing Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations.

  • Experience working with Veterans or military populations.

  • Brain Injury Medicine or rehabilitation experience.

  • QME or IME experience.

  • Clinical research and evidence-based practice experience.

Compensation & Employment

$200,000–$380,000 per year

The position may be offered as W2 or 1099/contract, depending on candidate eligibility and company requirements. Tax treatment will depend on the selected employment arrangement.

Relocation assistance is not offered.
