The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution systems up to 38kV.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who can independently manage complex designs, review engineering deliverables, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with customers, manufacturing, project management, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of LV/MV switchgear and power distribution equipment.
- Develop and review one-line diagrams, schematics, control circuits, elevation views, plan views, and engineering drawings.
- Design and support electrical protection and control systems and protection schemes.
- Select and specify electrical components, including application and coordination.
- Create and revise drawings using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Interpret customer specifications and provide technical support throughout project execution.
- Provide technical expertise during manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Mentor Design Engineers and Engineering Interns and provide technical guidance on complex projects.
- Support engineering standards, templates, best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure designs meet applicable IEC, ANSI, IEEE, UL, NEMA, customer, and company requirements.
Must-Have Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional experience designing switchgear or power distribution equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems up to 38kV.
- Strong experience with electrical protection, control systems, protection schemes, and control circuits.
- Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects from concept through manufacturing and testing.
- Experience reviewing or approving engineering deliverables.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Working knowledge of applicable IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, ANSI, or similar electrical standards.
- Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, communication, and project-management skills.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of technical responsibility.
Preferred
- Hands-on switchgear experience in manufacturing, testing, commissioning, or field service.
- Experience mentoring or training engineers.
- Experience with customer technical reviews and electrical equipment manufacturing.
