Job description

CTO & Co-Founder — Remember Them (of Healing Partners)
Help us change the way America does death.
About us
Remember Them is on a mission to transform one of the most emotionally overwhelming moments in a family's life — choosing how to memorialize someone they love. Today, families sit across a desk from a funeral director, flipping through a thick catalog of headstones in the fog of grief. It takes 5–20 hours and multiple meetings. We're building the AI-powered design tool that replaces the catalog: families answer a few questions about who their person was, and we generate memorial options that actually reflect them.
Remember Them is the MVP product under Healing Partners, a company being built to modernize the entire death-care experience — starting with headstones, expanding into VR/AR visualization, kiosk experiences, and eventually reimagining the role of traditional Funeral Homes & Cemeteries ~180B Market predicted to double by 2030.
The role
We're looking for a technical co-founder to own the product from prototype through platform. You'll partner directly with the founder (deep death-care industry background since 2008 — sold headstones, managed cemeteries, knows the supply chain, the pricing, and the people). You bring the technical vision, architecture, and shipping muscle.
This isn't a "build what I tell you" role. You'll shape the product, choose the stack, and grow the engineering team when the time comes.
What you'll do
Take our clickable Claude Design prototype and turn it into a real, deployed SaaS product funeral homes can subscribe to
Own the AI/LLM layer — the recommendation engine that narrows headstone choices based on the deceased's personality and story
Architect for what's next: let's redefine what a memorial looks a and feels like, VR/AR memorial visualization, kiosk deployments, a design decision-tree that eventually stands alone
Set up the infrastructure, security, and data practices a funeral-home SaaS needs (this is a trust-heavy industry)
Help fundraise — investor conversations, technical due diligence, the works
Represent the technical vision to the Oregon AI Accelerator (we're applying) and future partners
What you bring
Strong technical info structure ability — you've built and launched real products, and you're fluent in AI-augmented development workflows (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar) as well as writing production code yourself
Experience taking something from zero to one in a startup or as a solo founder — you know the difference between MVP speed and production-grade
Comfort with the emotional weight of the domain. This is death care. Families are our end users at their hardest moment. If that gives you purpose, we should talk. If it makes you uncomfortable, this isn't the role.
Bias to action, low ego, high ownership
Nice to have
Prior experience in a regulated or trust-sensitive industry (health tech, fintech, legal tech)
3D/AR/VR experience (Unity, Unreal, WebXR) — relevant to our platform roadmap
Prior CTO or founding engineer experience
The offer
Meaningful co-founder equity. Percentage negotiable based on stage of contribution and prior track record, with honeymoon provisions clearly defined and agreed upon by both parties (let's make sure we work well together). Max 35% equity.
