Software Engineering Advisor

The Role

We are looking for an experienced software engineer who wants to advise rather than build day-to-day. You will help us think through technical decisions, review work from our engineering team, and flag things we might miss — without being in the weeds of active development.

This is a part-time advisory role. You are not on a sprint. You are the person we call when we need a second opinion.

What This Looks Like

• Reviewing architecture decisions and giving honest, direct feedback

• Advising on technical direction for the product and internal tooling

• Occasional code review when a fresh set of eyes matters

• Helping us evaluate tools, frameworks, and tradeoffs before we commit

• Flagging risks early — before they become problems

What This Is Not

This is not a development role. You will not own a feature, manage a backlog, or be responsible for shipping. If you want to build, this is not the right fit. If you want to help a small team build smarter, keep reading.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience across frontend and backend — React and Python are our main stack

• Based in the United States

• Opinionated and direct. You have a point of view and you say it plainly.

• Already fluent with AI coding tools — Cursor, Claude Code, or similar. You use them, you understand their limits.

• Comfortable working async. Written communication only, no scheduled calls.

How We Work

No meetings. Everything is written. You respond when you can, we move when you do.

We are not looking for someone who needs context every time we ask a question. We are looking for someone who can read a short brief, ask one clarifying question, and give us a useful answer.

Engagement is light. Maybe a few hours a week. The right person will not feel stretched — they will feel like it fits cleanly alongside whatever else they are doing.

Compensation

$5,000 per month, commission-based.

Part-time. Fully flexible hours.
