Job description

Job Overview Title: Superintendent – Public Works

Department: Field Operations / Infrastructure

Supervises: Field Crews, Foremen, and Subcontractors

Role Type: Full-time

Location: San Jose, CA (With projects in San Francisco and Monterey)

About the Company: We are a leading Public Works contractor serving the Bay Area and Central Coast. Our firm specializes in critical infrastructure projects that support California’s growing communities. From complex pump stations to essential pipeline networks, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, durable engineering solutions for municipal and state agencies.

About the Position: We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee multiple concurrent Public Works projects throughout San Jose, San Francisco, and Monterey. This role requires a leader with a deep background in "wet utility" infrastructure, specifically pump stations, sewer, storm, and water pipelines. You will be responsible for the strategic management of field operations, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence across various job sites.

Key Responsibilities
Multi-Project Management: Simultaneously oversee the execution of multiple public works projects, ensuring resources are allocated effectively across different geographic locations.

Wet Utility Oversight: Lead the installation and repair of critical infrastructure including pump stations, sewer mains, storm drains, and water pipelines.

Field Leadership: Supervise and mentor field crews and foremen; coordinate closely with subcontractors to maintain project momentum.

Compliance & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to Public Works specifications, local codes, and OSHA safety standards across all active sites.

Schedule & Logistics: Manage project timelines, material deliveries, and equipment staging to minimize downtime and community disruption.

Agency Coordination: Act as the primary field contact for municipal inspectors and agency representatives to ensure work meets all jurisdictional requirements.

Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy civil/public works construction, specifically in a supervisory capacity for a general contractor.

Project Scope: Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent projects involving pump stations and large-scale pipeline installations.

Education: BS in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or Construction Management (BSCM) is preferred; however, 10+ years of relevant field experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of wet utility means and methods, shoring requirements, and public works documentation.

Logistics: Ability to travel between and manage sites in San Jose, San Francisco, and Monterey as project needs dictate.

Preferred Qualifications
Certifications: QSP/QSD (Qualified SWPPP Developer/Practitioner) or specialized safety certifications.
