Assistant Editor (Freelance)

Type: Freelance / contract
Location: Remote (US-based)
Rate: Competitive, based on experience
Commitment: Roughly 2 to 3 days per week, project-based, ongoing
Start: Immediate

About us

We're a small video production and post house making product education and B2B content for clients in healthcare technology, SaaS, and other regulated industries. Our work runs from script to screen: writing, stock and screen-capture assembly, motion graphics, and finished deliverables, on a client review cycle. We ship a lot of video with a small team, and we hold a real craft standard on every cut.

The role

We're looking for a freelance Assistant Editor to keep our post pipeline clean and our editors cutting. You'll own media, project hygiene, and deliverables- the work that makes everything downstream fast and predictable. It's a support role with room to grow. AEs who show good instincts get handed sequences.

What you'll do

  • Ingest, transcode, and organize footage, holding a consistent bin structure and naming convention across every project
  • Source and license stock, music, and graphics, and keep asset documentation tidy
  • Capture and prep screen recordings and product UI footage for editors
  • Sync audio, build selects and string outs, and prep sequences to spec
  • Manage project files, media, and backups across local and shared storage
  • Build and export deliverables: masters, versions, social cutdowns, captions, and subtitles
  • Track versions, client notes, and turnovers across review rounds so nothing gets cut twice
  • Troubleshoot media and project issues before they reach an editor
  • Assist on cuts as needed, including assembly, cleanup passes, titles, and lower thirds

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years assisting on real post projects, in a shop, agency, or in-house team
  • Fluent in Adobe Premiere Pro, and comfortable in After Effects and Audition
  • Solid grasp of codecs, frame rates, color space, and export specs
  • Meticulous file and media organization. You name things correctly without being asked
  • Clear written communication and reliable turnaround against a deadline
  • Able to work independently, ask the right question early, and flag problems before they become fires
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Motion graphics chops in After Effects
  • Experience with captioning and accessibility deliverables
  • Familiarity with Adobe Stock, Frame.io, and shared storage workflows
  • B2B, SaaS, or product education video experience

Logistics

This is a fully remote contract role for US-based editors. You'll need your own workstation capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud, enough local storage for active projects, and a stable connection for large file transfers. We work standard US business hours with flexibility on when you put in your day, and we run client review rounds on a weekly cadence.

How to apply

Apply with your resume and a link to your reel or two or three projects you assisted on. Include a short note on what you specifically did on each, since we care more about that than the finished piece. Tell us your rate expectations and your current availability.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
