**About the company**

A pre-seed AI startup building the infrastructure for AI-native service companies, a platform that lets a small team orchestrate an AI-driven workforce and compete with businesses many times their size. The founder has a proven prior track record building and exiting a company, and the company recently closed a fast, oversubscribed angel round. The product is already working in closed beta and moving quickly toward a public release.

**The role**

You'll be the first engineering hire, which means you set the technical foundation everyone who comes after you inherits. Working directly with the founder, you'll own the full stack end-to-end and take an existing closed-beta product to a publicly scalable release, with total autonomy in a genuinely zero-playbook environment. This is a role for someone who defines what to build and ships it themselves, not someone waiting on a product brief.

**What you'll do**

- Own the entire technical stack end-to-end, from architecture and infrastructure decisions through production deployment and ongoing reliability

- Take the existing closed-beta product and drive it to a publicly scalable release, rebuilding or extending whatever is needed

- Design and ship production-grade agentic systems, including orchestration layers, long-running agent harnesses, and multi-tool coordination at scale

- Talk directly with early users and customers, define what to build next, and ship it without waiting for direction

- Set the engineering standard, hiring bar, and technical culture that every future engineer will be onboarded into

- Operate as a full-stack product engineer across frontend, backend, and infrastructure as the work demands

**What you must bring**

- Demonstrated ability to design and ship production-grade agentic systems: orchestration, long-running agents, tool calling, and scalable agent harnesses

- Full-stack engineering depth across backend, frontend, and infrastructure, with a track record of shipping fast without a team around you

- High agency — the ability to define what to build, decide how to build it, and execute without a manager, a product brief, or a playbook

- Evidence of having built something real users actually use, not theoretical prototypes or zero-user side projects

- Genuine comfort operating in a high-signal, high-intensity environment

- Willingness to work in-person in San Francisco, five to six days a week, at startup hours

**Nice to have**

- Prior founder or CTO experience, or an early founding-engineer role at a fast-moving startup

- A recognizable employer, top university, or other strong external signal of caliber

- Experience building platforms or marketplaces where the end user is themselves a business operator or founder

- Background in a European technical ecosystem such as Austria, Germany, or Switzerland

**Compensation & logistics**

- $150K–$250K base salary plus 0.5%–2.0% founding equity, flexible depending on ownership

- Zero-friction hardware and tooling, with an unlimited model/API budget

- Potential paid relocation to San Francisco

- On-site five to six days a week in San Francisco

- 1 opening

- Not open to visa sponsorship — candidates must already be authorized to work in the US

**This isn't the right fit if**

- Your background is exclusively at large tech companies with no startup shipping experience

- You're a theoretical builder with no real users behind your work

- You need direction, process, or a product brief to operate effectively
