Pathology Assistant (Short-Term / Coverage)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pathology Assistant (PA) for a short-term assignment to provide coverage for a leave of absence. The Pathology Assistant will work under the direct supervision of Board-Certified Pathologists to perform comprehensive gross surgical specimen examinations, dissections, and post-mortem procedures, ensuring efficient and high-quality laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Gross Examination & Dissection: Perform macroscopic evaluation, description, and dissection of surgical pathology specimens in accordance with standard operating procedures.

• Tissue Preparation: Select and submit appropriate tissue blocks for microscopic examination, frozen sections, flow cytometry, and other specialized diagnostic testing.

• Autopsy Assistance: Assist or perform post-mortem examinations, including gross external/internal organ evaluation, specimen collection, and preparation of preliminary findings as required.

• Photography & Documentation: Maintain precise documentation, macroscopic photographs, and accurate specimen labeling within the laboratory information system.

• Laboratory Operations & Quality Control: Adhere to strict quality assurance, safety, and infection control protocols to ensure compliance with lab standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Pathologists' Assistant program (Master's level preferred).

• Certification: Active ASCP Certification as a Pathologists' Assistant — PA(ASCP).

• Experience: Previous clinical experience in surgical and autopsy pathology within a hospital laboratory setting.

• Skills: Excellent knowledge of human anatomy, gross pathology techniques, slide preparation, and laboratory safety standards. Strong communication and task prioritization abilities.
