About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to lead the architecture and development of a secure Fleet & Financing Management Platform. This is a hands-on role for an experienced engineer who enjoys building production systems from the ground up while owning the backend platform end-to-end.

You will work closely with embedded and electrical engineering teams to integrate cloud services with vehicle hardware, ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable communication between IoT devices and backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain the Secure Fleet & Financing Management System.
• Design and implement secure authentication, authorization, and encryption solutions.
• Build scalable backend APIs and cloud services.
• Collaborate with embedded and electrical engineering teams to integrate IoT and telematics hardware.
• Own cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and CI/CD processes.
• Integrate backend services with web, mobile, merchant, and administrative applications.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices.
• Implement monitoring, logging, testing, and observability across the platform.
• Ensure platform security, scalability, and high availability.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Proven experience building and shipping production backend systems.
• Strong expertise in Go (Golang).
• Experience with TypeScript.
• Deep understanding of security engineering, cryptography, authentication, authorization, and secure system design.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and scalable backend architecture.
• Ability to independently own projects from architecture through production deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with IoT, telematics, or fleet management platforms.
• Experience with MQTT, WebSockets, or real-time communication systems.
• Experience integrating cloud services with hardware devices.
• Startup or early-stage company experience.
• Experience serving as a technical lead or platform owner.

Location

This position is based on-site in Alameda, California. Some flexibility (such as a 3-day in-office schedule) may be considered for exceptional candidates, but the standard expectation is full-time on-site due to close collaboration with hardware engineering teams.
