About This Role
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced Billing Specialist to join our remote team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day billing operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring timely and efficient processing of transactions.
This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate customer accounts, resolving billing discrepancies, monitoring outstanding balances, and supporting the overall financial health of the organization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
What You'll Do:
Process billing transactions, invoices, payments, adjustments, and account updates accurately and efficiently.
Manage payment processing and monitor accounts to ensure payments are received and recorded in a timely manner.
Perform regular account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure financial records remain accurate.
Review and verify insurance information and documentation as required to support accurate billing and payment processing.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer account information and financial records.
Perform detailed data entry while ensuring compliance with established billing and documentation procedures.
Monitor outstanding balances and assist with follow-up regarding past-due accounts and payment issues.
Research and resolve billing discrepancies, payment errors, and account-related inquiries.
Prepare and generate routine financial and billing reports to support management decision-making and financial planning.
Maintain organized records and documentation in accordance with company policies and applicable requirements.
Provide professional, responsive, and courteous customer account support.
Collaborate with internal departments to resolve billing issues and improve billing processes.
Identify opportunities to improve billing accuracy, efficiency, and overall workflow.
Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive customer and financial information.
Perform additional accounting, billing, and administrative duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in billing, accounts receivable, accounting, or a closely related role.
Strong knowledge of billing procedures, payment processing, and account reconciliation.
Proficiency with billing, accounting, or financial management software.
Strong data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Experience preparing financial and billing reports.
Familiarity with insurance verification and insurance-related billing processes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining productivity, accountability, and responsiveness.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, or comparable productivity tools.
Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and professional customer service.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with nonprofit organizations or mission-driven organizations.
Experience with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks or similar financial systems.
Familiarity with automated billing and payment processing systems.
Experience identifying process improvements and implementing more efficient billing workflows.
Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred but not required with equivalent experience.

Work Environment:
