Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the organization's accounting and financial operations. This individual will oversee consolidated financial reporting, accounting close processes, budgeting, cost accounting, ERP optimization, internal controls, compliance, and accounting team leadership. The Controller will partner closely with executive leadership to improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and long-term business growth.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Close

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes.

  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute consolidated financial statements.

  • Complete monthly financial reporting by the 10th day of each month.

  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and account reconciliations.

  • Maintain fixed asset depreciation schedules.

  • Manage inventory controls.

  • Conduct comparative financial analysis and budget variance reporting.

  • Oversee banking activities and cash flow management.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Cost Accounting & Budgeting

  • Build and improve cost accounting structures across all business units.

  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement cost improvements.

  • Develop, monitor, and report on budgetary controls.

  • Provide financial analytics supporting production, operations, budgeting, and cost management.

Accounting Operations

  • Continuously improve accounting processes, efficiency, and internal controls.

  • Oversee:
    • Accounts Payable

    • Accounts Receivable

    • Purchasing

    • Billing

    • Cost Accounting

    • Financial Reporting

  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team.

ERP & Information Systems

  • Lead ERP implementation and optimization initiatives.

  • Improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.

  • Coordinate with third-party IT providers regarding:
    • Hardware

    • Networking

    • Financial software systems

Process & Compliance

  • Document and maintain accounting workflows and financial processes.

  • Maintain strong internal control environments across all entities.

  • Prepare documentation for external audits.

  • Complete sales tax returns and real estate tax payments.

  • Ensure compliance for:
    • Leases

    • Quarry compliance

    • Contract renewals

    • Service agreements

    • IFTA reporting

    • License plate renewals

Risk Management

  • Manage collections and financial risk.

  • Lead annual insurance evaluations and renewals, including:
    • Liability

    • Property & Casualty

    • Workers' Compensation

  • Develop cost-effective insurance strategies.

  • Approve and deposit checks.

  • Manage Positive Pay processes.

Financial Management

  • Build P&L statements by business unit, location, and project.

  • Review balance sheets and profit & loss statements.

  • Prepare and approve lien waivers.

  • Review credit applications.

  • Maintain equipment schedules.

  • Analyze current portions of long-term debt.

  • Reconcile bank statements and loan accounts.

  • Manage cash flow and inter-company allocations.

Human Resources Support

  • Serve as Finance liaison to Human Resources.

  • Support:
    • Payroll

    • Benefits Administration

    • Personnel Updates

    • Company Policy Compliance

Strategic Planning

Partner with executive leadership to:

  • Support growth initiatives.

  • Evaluate acquisitions.

  • Assist with divestiture planning.

  • Develop short- and long-term capital strategies.

  • Improve overall financial and operational performance.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Extensive experience managing:
    • Financial Reporting

    • Accounting Close

    • Cost Accounting

    • Budgeting

    • ERP Systems

    • Internal Controls

  • Strong leadership experience managing accounting teams.

  • Experience with compliance, audits, and risk management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Public Accounting experience
