Job Overview

Our client is a specialized law firm dedicated exclusively to protecting homeowners in disputes with residential contractors, builders, and developers. The practice represents clients in matters involving defective construction, contract disputes, project delays, mechanic's liens, payment disputes, warranty claims, and other construction-related litigation.

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Civil Litigation Associate with 3–5 years of litigation experience to join the team. Construction law experience is helpful but not required. The ideal attorney enjoys advocating for clients, taking ownership of cases, and developing into a skilled trial lawyer.

Must-Have Skills

  • Active Virginia license to practice law

  • 3–5 years of civil litigation experience

  • Trial experience

  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills

  • Experience independently managing litigation cases

  • Pleading and motion drafting experience

  • Deposition experience — taking and/or defending

  • Motion practice and courtroom experience

  • Hearing experience

  • Mediation and settlement negotiation experience

  • Experience preparing cases for trial, arbitration, or evidentiary hearings

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Strong client communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Local candidate preferred/required; no relocation assistance

  • Stable work history required

  • Must fall within the stated salary range

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship

Construction litigation, commercial litigation, or real estate litigation experience is preferred but not required.

What You'll Do

As an Associate Litigation Attorney, you will manage a diverse caseload from inception through resolution, including:

  • Conducting client consultations and developing litigation strategy

  • Drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery

  • Taking and defending depositions

  • Arguing motions in court

  • Participating in mediations and settlement negotiations

  • Working with construction experts and consultants

  • Preparing cases for trial, arbitration, and evidentiary hearings

  • Maintaining regular communication with clients throughout their matters

Attorneys are given significant responsibility from day one and are expected to play an active role in every phase of litigation. However, you will not be expected to figure everything out alone. The team works collaboratively, with a team lead providing guidance and mentorship.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia

  • Maryland and/or D.C. admission is a plus

  • 3–5 years of civil litigation and trial experience

  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills

  • Experience managing cases independently

  • Deposition, hearing, and motion practice experience

  • Excellent client communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Experience in construction litigation, commercial litigation, or real estate litigation is preferred but not required.

Why Join Us?

You won't spend years sitting behind a senior attorney. From the beginning, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your cases, work directly with clients, and gain meaningful courtroom experience.

Attorneys regularly:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients

  • Develop litigation strategy and manage their own caseloads

  • Take and defend depositions

  • Argue motions before the court

  • Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations

  • Prepare cases for trial and arbitration

  • First-chair and second-chair trials, depending on experience

If you're looking to become a stronger trial lawyer rather than simply managing discovery, this is an opportunity to build substantial litigation experience in a growing and specialized construction law practice.

We foster a collaborative environment where attorneys are trusted with responsibility, supported by experienced mentors, and encouraged to develop their own practice and professional reputation.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary

  • Performance-based bonuses
