Job Overview

We are seeking a Healthcare Principal with extensive healthcare and hospital design experience to join a growing Houston team. This role is focused on serving as a mechanical seller/doer, partnering with leadership to deliver and grow the healthcare business.

The Healthcare Principal will lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, deliver forward-thinking and sustainable healthcare designs, solve complex client challenges, and contribute to the continued growth of the Texas healthcare practice. This position will also serve as a key member of the Texas leadership team.

Must-Have Skills

• 15+ years of professional engineering experience

• Hospital/healthcare design experience from concept design through construction administration and systems commissioning

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering

• Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license

• Project Manager or Project Director experience on medium- to large-scale projects

• Strong mechanical design leadership experience

• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams

• Strong healthcare client relationship and business development experience

• Experience with project budgets, schedules, resources, and financial performance

• Knowledge of regulatory standards and technical requirements

• Strong communication, presentation, planning, and organizational skills

• Experience with sustainable design

• Ability to serve as Lead Engineer or Engineer of Record

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams in the design and execution of healthcare projects, ensuring alignment with client goals, regulatory standards, and contractual obligations.

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with healthcare clients to drive repeat business and identify new opportunities.

• Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

• Manage financial performance, implement risk controls, and ensure compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.

• Supervise and mentor engineering teams, fostering professional growth through development opportunities and performance evaluations.

• Present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences in engaging and innovative ways.

• Promote sustainable design practices that support improved health outcomes and are grounded in the latest scientific research.

• Serve as Lead Engineer or Engineer of Record on key projects, ensuring technical excellence and accountability.

• Partner with leadership to deliver and grow the Houston healthcare business.

• Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams while supporting the continued growth of the Texas healthcare practice.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including experience designing hospitals from concept design through construction administration and commissioning of systems.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering required.

• Experience leading project teams as a Project Manager or Project Director on medium- to large-scale projects.

• Proven leadership in mechanical design, with a client-focused and collaborative approach.

• Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.

• Active PE license in Texas.
