About the role
Our client designs, manufactures, and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft with the long-term goal of enabling human life on Mars. This role supports the Starship Components Machining organization in Hawthorne, California.
Develop in-house machining capability for Starship components and own the connection between engineering design and production execution. This hands-on engineer will improve part manufacturability, shop equipment, quality, cost, process capability, and production flow.
Responsibilities
- Develop machining capability and deliver high-quality precision parts to factory assembly teams.
- Analyze parts and assemblies for manufacturability, assembly, and test.
- Maintain a tight feedback loop with downstream operations and implement rapid design and process iterations.
- Investigate out-of-tolerance conditions and own corrective action through production use, assembly, and testing.
- Identify, recommend, procure, install, maintain, and calibrate machine-shop equipment.
- Drive cost optimization and reduction across fabrication processes.
- Develop and improve manufacturing methods, process sequences, and equipment utilization.
- Coordinate across SpaceX machine shops to address capacity and scheduling constraints.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree or equivalent relevant technical experience.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining, CAM, GD&T, tooling, DFM, and precision production.
- Demonstrated ownership of manufacturing-process development and root-cause resolution.
- Ability to work directly with production hardware in a fast-moving factory environment.
