Residential Solar Installer (1099 Independent Contractor)
Affordable Solar installs residential solar throughout Norman, Yukon, and the OKC metro. We are looking for installers who can work safely and independently on rooftop solar projects.
Pay and terms
$15–$25 per hour on most jobs, based on demonstrated skill and experience
Some projects are paid per job or per watt, split by the crew
Paid weekly
Consistent job volume; weekday daylight work is typical
Independent contractor: you handle your own taxes, insurance, tools, and fall-protection gear; 1099 issued at year end
What you will do
Install racking, flashing, modules, wiring, inverters, monitoring, rapid shutdown equipment, and disconnects
Land DC and AC connections from the array to the inverter and service panel
Commission systems and verify production; we use Enphase, SolarEdge, and Tesla
Build to approved plan sets, NEC Article 690, and utility requirements
Handle service calls including inverter faults, communications drops, damaged conductors, and ground faults
Flash and seal roof penetrations carefully to prevent leaks
Document completed work with photos and materials lists
Communicate professionally with homeowners, inspectors, and the crew
Requirements
At least 1 year of residential solar installation experience; 2+ years preferred
Working knowledge of NEC Article 690 and the ability to read and build from plan sets
Experience with IronRidge, Unirac, SnapNrack, or similar racking systems
Comfort with MC4 connectors, torque specifications, conduit bending, and clean wire management
Comp-shingle roofing experience; tile, metal, and standing-seam experience are a plus
Consistent fall-protection and job-site safety practices
Ability to work at heights in heat, cold, and wind and lift up to 50 pounds
Your own hand tools, cordless tools, and fall-protection equipment
Valid driver license, reliable transportation, and high school diploma or equivalent
Workers' compensation waiver
Nice to have
NABCEP PV Installation Professional or PV Associate certification
Electrical apprentice or journeyman license; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
Battery experience with Powerwall, Enphase IQ, or FranklinWH
Service/troubleshooting, roofing, construction, or crew-lead experience
English and Spanish
Work conditions
Outdoor work at residential properties, including rooftop work at height. Projects include new installations and service calls. Most work occurs during weekday daylight hours.
