About the company
A Series A AI company, founded in 2023, that automates the repetitive account management work inside commercial insurance brokerages: re-keying data into systems, chasing documents, and the rest of the busywork that pulls account managers away from clients. Revenue grew into the millions within roughly a year, and the product is already in use at a large share of the biggest brokerages in the US. The company recently closed its Series A with well-known enterprise software investors and is still small, with fewer than 30 people working in person in San Francisco. The team includes engineers and operators from established fintech, consumer tech, and consulting firms.
The role
You'll be the engineer who sits between large brokerage customers and the platform. A typical cycle is a call with a customer to understand a painful workflow, then building and deploying an agent that fixes it, usually within the same week. The split is roughly 70% hands-on coding (customer builds plus platform work) and 30% scoping and requirements with customers. This is post-sales work: a separate team handles demos, pre-sales, and upselling, so your time goes to understanding the business and building. The company is hiring 2 engineers into this seat at once, so you'll be ramping up alongside a peer rather than alone.
What you'll do
Own customer engagements from first requirements conversation through a working, deployed solution
Build and ship AI agents and automations on the company's platform for its largest brokerage accounts
Scope technical solutions directly with enterprise customers and deliver working versions within days of the conversation
Take customer-specific builds that work and fold them back into the core platform so they serve every customer
Partner with product and engineering to turn what you see in the field into features that scale
What you must bring
3+ years of engineering experience after college across software, forward deployed, solutions, implementation, or product engineering
Real production software engineering experience (backend, full-stack, or product), not only ML prototypes or demos
Strong Python and/or TypeScript, and comfort shipping on both the front end and back end
Post-sales, customer-facing engineering experience: you've scoped a customer problem, built the fix, and shipped it within the same week
A track record of shipping multiple features or automations for large enterprise customers
Experience at a venture-backed startup at Series A or later
Comfort moving between customer calls and heads-down coding in the same day
The habit of creating process when there isn't one, instead of waiting for it
Ability to work on-site five days a week in San Francisco
Nice to have
AI/ML automations or agentic workflows you've built or deployed in production
Hands-on work building or integrating LLM pipelines (OpenAI APIs, LangChain, or similar tools)
Experience in insurance or financial services
Compensation & logistics
$180K to $300K base salary plus competitive equity
On-site five days a week in San Francisco, CA
2 openings
Open to visa transfers, including OPT and H-1B transfers
This isn't the right fit if
Your experience is only at large companies, or mainly in software consulting, with no startup exposure
You moved into forward deployed work but want to get back to pure engineering with no customer contact
Your engineering background is mostly ML research, data science, or prototypes rather than production systems
You've had several roles lasting under a year, or you've just started a new role and are already looking
You depend on AI coding assistants to work through practical coding problems
