Container Loading Associate / Vehicle Loader
MATUS International is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Container Loading Associate to join our Philadelphia operations team. This position is responsible for helping load vehicles safely and efficiently into shipping containers while following company procedures and safety requirements.
The ideal candidate is reliable, comfortable performing physical work, follows instructions, and works well as part of a team. Previous warehouse, automotive, construction, or container-loading experience is preferred, but training may be provided to qualified candidates.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with loading approximately three to four vehicles into each shipping container.
- Guide and position vehicles according to the approved loading plan.
- Install wood supports and secure vehicles using straps, ropes, and other approved materials.
- Inspect straps, wood, and securing points to confirm that vehicles are properly stabilized.
- Assist the captain and other team members throughout the loading process.
- Protect vehicles from damage during handling and loading.
- Report pre-existing damage, missing parts, safety concerns, or equipment problems immediately.
- Maintain accurate communication with the captain and supervisor.
- Keep containers, loading areas, tools, and workspaces clean and organized.
- Follow all MATUS International SOPs, safety rules, and quality-control requirements.
- Perform additional warehouse duties when assigned.
Safety Requirements
Employees must wear all required personal protective equipment, including:
- Hard hat
- Safety glasses
- Safety vest or reflective shirt
- Protective gloves
- Steel-toe or hard-toe work boots
- Helmet light when working inside containers
Only trained and authorized employees may operate forklifts or other powered equipment.
Qualifications
- Must be dependable and arrive on time.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Attention to detail when handling and securing vehicles.
- Ability to work inside shipping containers and in warehouse or outdoor conditions.
- Previous loading, warehouse, automotive, construction, or mechanical experience is preferred.
- Forklift experience is helpful but not required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, push, and pull throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in confined container spaces and changing temperatures.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely.
- Ability to use hand tools, straps, ropes, and wood supports.
