Job description

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to provide technical, administrative, and field coordination support for commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of experience and can independently manage project documentation, engineering controls, subcontractor coordination, and cost-tracking activities to help ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the technical and operational management of construction projects from conception through completion.

  • Coordinate daily with project managers, superintendents, clients, architects, subcontractors, vendors, and field crews.

  • Review blueprints, structural drawings, and plan sets to identify constructability concerns, discrepancies, and field coordination issues.

  • Assist with project budgeting, cost tracking, monthly cost projections, client billings, and invoice review.

  • Estimate construction management and self-perform work items.

  • Collaborate with the project manager and superintendent to develop, update, and maintain project schedules.

  • Review subcontractor quotations, coordinate procurement, and support subcontract negotiations.

  • Prepare and organize proposals, clarifications, alternates, and value-engineering options.

  • Review contract requirements and assist with processing subcontracts, change orders, RFIs, submittals, change proposals, and owner change orders.

  • Prepare and distribute detailed meeting minutes; participate in and help lead project meetings.

  • Identify and address technical, operational, and field risks to minimize project impacts and support jobsite safety.

  • Lead or support quality-control activities, punch-list management, and project closeout.

  • Mentor junior project engineers and assist with training, workload delegation, and document review.

  • Support business development and marketing efforts as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related commercial construction experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and field experience.

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, means and methods, equipment, and terminology.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, specifications, contracts, and related project documents.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam.

  • Experience with Viewpoint and/or AIA construction software preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, negotiation, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.

  • Ability to work independently, adapt to changing project conditions, and make sound, timely decisions.

  • Ability to travel regularly to active jobsites and perform the physical activities required in an office and field environment.
