We're early and deliberate. We'd rather build it right than build it fast.

The Role

You'll be the technical lead for HEAL. You'll own the architecture, infrastructure, and security of our next-generation platform (V2), and you'll set the standard for how software gets built here. This is a founding-level role with real ownership. You'll shape the system and the engineering culture from the ground up, working directly with the CEO.

What You'll Do

Architect and lead development of HEAL's V2 platform, spanning AI systems, connected hardware, and cloud infrastructure

Design a security-first infrastructure: threat modeling, encryption, identity and access, secure data pipelines, and zero-trust principles from day one

Build systems that handle sensitive health data to the standard of HIPAA and beyond

Write, review, and own critical code personally, especially where security matters most

Make the build-vs-buy, stack, and vendor decisions that will define the company's technical foundation

Lead and mentor a small engineering team as it grows

Translate product vision into a technical roadmap you can defend

Who You Are

10+ years of hands-on software engineering, with deep experience in systems architecture, infrastructure, and security

A true engineer at the fundamentals level. You write secure, production-grade code yourself and fully understand every line you ship. We build without AI code generation in our core and security-critical systems, so this is non-negotiable.

Proven track record securing systems that handle sensitive data (health, finance, defense, or similar)

Experience integrating AI/ML systems into production responsibly, with a clear eye for their risks

Comfortable owning everything from cloud infrastructure to device-to-cloud communication

Able to make high-stakes calls with incomplete information, and honest about tradeoffs

Available for regular meetings during San Francisco business hours

Bonus Points

Experience with HIPAA, SOC 2, or FDA-regulated software

Background with embedded or IoT systems

Security certifications or a history of security research

Prior founding engineer or early-stage technical leadership experience
