Position Overview

A leading structural steel fabrication and construction organization is seeking a Mid-Level Estimator to join its estimating team in Irving, TX. This is an office-based role reporting directly to the Chief Estimator.

The Estimator will be responsible for performing detailed quantity takeoffs—both computer-aided and manual—for structural steel components and preparing comprehensive bid packages. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate scope definition and pricing integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel components using manual and computer-aided methods

• Review and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and bid documents

• Perform takeoffs for structural steel elements, connections, and related assemblies

• Analyze vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure scope alignment and pricing accuracy

• Develop complete estimate summaries, including standard requirements and special conditions

• Assist in preparing bid documentation and final proposal packages

• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project teams to validate scope assumptions

• Support training and mentorship of junior estimators or Estimators-in-Training

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural steel estimating or a closely related role

• Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes, methods, and terminology

• Experience working in a construction or structural steel environment

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and bid documents

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and Outlook

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required)

• Experience working in a fast-paced estimating or preconstruction environment
